      Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Importing CSV or Excel Files

A: If you have a list of contacts in electronic format, they can be imported into your contact manager in just a few steps. Click on the 'Browse' button to select either an Excel or CSV file to import. Make sure to select a Group from the drop down list so that the newly imported contacts are assigned to this group. If you are importing an Excel file, there are only two fields you need to be concerned with on this form. The 'First Row Contains Column Names' is checked by default, and should only be unchecked if the first row does not have column names for your data. The 'Ignore First Row' option is unchecked by default and should only be checked in rare situations where the first row contains data that does not apply and that should not be included in the import (such as heading information or a title). In some cases you may want to import your contacts from a source other than Excel. A CSV file is a standard "delimited text" file format supported by most third party programs. Just make sure to "export" your contacts to this format and you can then use it to import into Spiderlink CRM. Like Excel, the first row can include the field names. You can also ignore the first row if you wish. The 'Column Delimiter' is set to a comma (,) by default because most CSV files are "comma delimited". This setting should only be changed in special circumstances. A comma delimited file just means that comma is used to separate each field in your file. Finally, the 'Field Qualifier' is set to a double quotes mark ("). This is a very common setting in your CSV file and is rarely changed. The field qualifier encloses the content of each of your fields in the CSV file.
